The popular tourist region of Nuevo Vallarta will see the arrival of a brand new attraction in 2018, as the country’s first Cirque du Soleil Theme Park is set to open just five minutes from the Puerto Vallarta international airport. While building work has already begun at the Vidanta resort, initial reports indicate that the park will include circus attractions, rides and a water park, with the potential for evening shows also.
The park’s inception actually came about way back in 2014 when Cirque du Soleil, in partnership with Grupo Vidanta and Goddard Group, announced their plans to construct this epic and immersive theme park experience in Nuevo Vallarta. While plans for a water park were released a year later, further concrete details about exactly what the park will include have been thin on the ground, with very little firm information having been released by Vidanta themselves. However, the relatively recent release of concept art suggests that the theme park will be nothing short of extravagant; illustrations depict Mayan-esque structures, dotted with water features and numerous pathways. Plans also indicate that the evening shows will have a supposed capacity of 3000-5000 people.

What is also known is that this will be no ordinary theme park experience. Uber-flexible Cirque du Soleil performers will be situated all across the park, guiding visitors through this immersive, full-day experience which will supposedly follow an over-arching storyline. Again, what that storyline will actually be remains to be seen. Either way, the fusion of Vidanta’s luxury holidaying experience with Cirque du Soleil’s fantastical entertainment style will be impressive. Furthermore, the aesthetic of this theme park/ hotel will be as unobtrusive as possible, designed to look verdant and green rather than plastic-filled and false.

So, as if tourists didn’t already have enough reason to flock to the Riviera Nayarit, the 2018 arrival of this brand new theme park will surely twist their arm and provide a much welcome tourism boost for those living in the surrounding Nuevo and Puerto Vallarta areas. Especially for fans of Cirque du Soleil’s legendary shows, a visit to the world’s first Cirque theme park will surely prove unmissable. However, if you really can’t wait for the grand opening, you can satiate your Cirque du Soleil appetite (quite literally) at the Cirque themed dining experience on the Riviera Maya instead.

Here is an early illustration of what the park could look like:
