Puerto Vallarta, the First Gay Travel Approved City in Mexico
Puerto Vallarta is one of the hottest gay destinations and has become very popular over the last years. There are plenty of bars, clubs, shops, beaches, hostels and hotels that are gay friendly and many events happening throughout the year.
In 2017 Puerto Vallarta became The First Gay Travel Approved City in Mexico. Meaning the city is recognized for the spirit of inclusiveness as well as constant innovations to improve attractive amenities for the LGBTQ community.
1. The Annual Puerto Vallarta Pride
During May Puerto Vallarta hosts one of the most important Pride events in Latin America, the annual Puerto Vallarta Pride. This one week-long festival features some of the best drag-shows, pool parties and foam parties. The highlight of the week is the big parade on Saturday evening. Usually around 30,000 people join this event!

On NYE Puerto Vallarta throws a crazy big party. The presence of LGBTQ Community is strong, although the whole town is very welcome to join.
3. Laws
Mexico has rather progressive LGBTQ laws. Homosexuality was decriminalised in 1871 during the French occupation. Around 2003 Mexico started introducing some anti-discrimination laws, and now it’s finally heading to full gay marriage equality. 4. Zona Romántica
La Zona Romántica is Puerto Vallarta’s main gay area and also the old town. This part of the town is most popular for tourists, travelers and expats. On Playa de los Muertos you can find gay hotels, beach clubs and several pool parties. Most gay bars and clubs are also located in the Zona Romántica.
